How to Identify Troublemakers on Your Blog

Have good friends/followers/readers who will let you know when they get the warning message from Blogger.  Seriously.  I was able to access my own blog, but this was a bad thing, because I received no notification from Blogger/Google indicating that there was a problem.  Last time this happened, Jenny Lanctot of Are My Roots Showing? notified me (and sent me a copy of the message identifying the culprit) and this time Barbara Poole of Life from the Roots informed me and forwarded the message to me so that I could see what was causing the problem.

Thank you to these two good genea-blogger friends and to the friends who have let me know that everything is OK now.

  1. What kind of warning message from Blogger does this refer to?

  2. Unfortunately this was a problem for me as well. I also removed my blogroll which I hated to do. Hopefully this too shall pass. Thank you for alerting us to the problem and offering a solution. It's good to have friends who can tell you when something is not right.

  3. Thank goodness for really good bloggin' friends!!

If one makes you aware that you have trouble in bloggin' heaven, how do you determine which blog is infected with malware, if I remember correctly, when this happened last time you were able to remove just one blog.

I am so seriously considering taking down my list too, I really don't want to have to deal with this. SIGHHH

  4. Aaaaah! Tried leaving a message through my iPhone and it didn't work!...anyway...what message did you get? Was it another Blogger bug or something more sinister?

  5. Susan - I believe what happens is that anyone who tries to make a comment gets the warning (I never got it when I commented on my own blog), and it will actually identify the problem blog (one was Patten Project and the other was something like Caro's Journey). Since Jenny and Barbara sent me copies of the message, I could see which blog it was in each case.

Cynthia - I'm really sorry to see that this has happened to you, too. I'm fairly certain that the bloggers in question didn't deliberately do anything wrong, but just had some link or gadget that caused the problem.

Carol - As I mentioned above, the person who lets you know will have to send you a copy of the message they get, and that will identify the blog in question. I kept a pretty long blog roll, so I guess the chances were high that sooner or later there would be blogs that would cause problems.

  6. Hi Greta - No I'm sure the bloggers didn't do it intentionally. I removed mine, because I didn't want to spread it to someone else. I think I'll keep my blogroll down for a bit. We'll see how things go, and maybe I'll try again in a month or so. I haven't had any problems up until now.

  7. Cynthia - Same here. Just don't want to spread anything. Maybe some day I'll gradually add back a bit of a blogroll, but I think mine was really too big (and I had quit adding blogs to it several months previously).

  8. Greta, I was sorry to hear that you had to go through that again. Hopefully, the problem has been solved now. I must thank you though -- this is the first time I haven't been referred to as a trouble-maker :)

  9. Jenny - But you're a troublemaker in the good sense of the word!
